Metallic trend at this years Golden Globes
The Golden Globes kick off the awards season and forces the stars of the silver screen into a glamour frenzy. This year’s ceremony was a little predictable: fishtail dresses, red lipstick and updos, yet there were some stunning looks.
Cate Blanchett ,who grabbed a gong for Best Actress in Blue Jasmine, decided on 'elegant' hair and makeup to compliment the dramatic high neck, black lace Armani Privee dress. Eyeshadow was kept to a minimum with mascara top and bottom (try Lancôme Hypnose Drama mascara, £22, for defined yet separated lashes) allowing the lips to take centre stage with a pink lip that had a subtle metallic effect to it. Cheeks perfectly balanced the look with a hint of pink on the 'apples', whilst her delicate features were given a touch of complexion contouring.
Uma Thurman and Emma Thompson were also flying the glamour flag for the over 40s ,with both opting for metallic eye shadows. Emma's gold and copper shades were taken into a subtle smoky effect. Try Sisley Gold and Amber single shadows (£30 each) , or Bobbi Brown Bronze Palette (£35) by keeping the palest tone at the inner corner of the eye, with darker shades along the lashline toward the outer edge of the eye. If you are more mature, make sure that your metallic shadows have a shimmer rather than a sparkle, as some glittery products can emphasise lines.
Uma decided for a vampy look with her hair teased into a messy updo and earthy coloured shadows with a hint of rose metal on her eyes which shaped to a dramatic 'wing'. This gives a lifted effect to the eye whilst the subtly of the brows and eye liner, allow a softness to the entire look. Try Urban Decay's Naked Palette 3 (£37), 12 shades of metallic shades with a rose hue to recreate this stunning look.
Meanwhile, Red Carpet newbie Lupita Nyong'o looked striking in a pillar box red Ralph Lauren dress complete with cape. As always, red dresses feature heavily at award ceremonies, but Lupita's outshone the others. The dress was, however, reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrow's white Tom Ford ensemble which she wore to the Oscars in 2012.
Again, with Lupita's makeup, metallic influence was present in the form of gold and copper shimmer/sparkle shadow like MAC Copper Sparkle pigment (£17) or Illamasqua Pure Pigment glitter shadow in Fervent (£16.50) ,with a complimenting glossy tomato red lippy. If you want to try a red gloss that has staying power, then try YSL Glossy stain in Rouge Laque(£23.50). With such a statement dress and colour she kept accessories to a minimum: diamond studs and a stunning Fred Leighton cocktail ring.
