...and the winner is?

A galaxy of stars at last nights 86th Acadamy Awards, but who shone brightly on the red carpet?

This years Oscars was a fashion winner with the stars pulling out all the stops in the glamour stakes. Metallic dresses ,statement necklaces and relaxed hair styles featured heavily on the red carpet. Overall the glamour was high but yet the makeup was fairly subtle. Here are some of my favourite stars from the evening and how to get their look.

Nominee Amy Adams looked demure and sophisticated in navy Gucci. Gold and copper shadows on the eyes compliment the elegant updo. Urban Decay Naked palette 2 (£37) can create a similar look. A palette of taupe based metallic shades in 12 colours. Use the lightest shade on the inner corner of the eyes then graduate to darker shades at the outer edge of the eyes.

Another nominee in dark blue was Sandra Bullock in McQueen. Hair was loose and over to one side . Bold eyes with a hint of pink on the cheeks and lips softened the look. Get Sandra's rosy glow by using Sisley Duo Pinky Rose blusher (£50) on the apples of the cheeks with a slightly darker shade of powder to define under the cheekbones. It's pricey but it never looks powdery on the skin...great for maturer skins too.

Margot Robbie went to the dark side not only with her YSL dress but also with her locks. The blonde mane was transformed to luscious dark locks for this years  Academy Awards. Bold brows framed soft eyes whilst her lips were plum gorgeous! Try Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Midnight Plum, a snip at around £6.99. Apply then blot then reapply, add a touch of gloss if you have smaller lips so that they look fuller....and always use a lip pencil to define the shape first.

One of the last to arrive was Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab couture. This year Angelina has gone for a smouldering look on the eyes so the key item to get this look would be a longwearing black pencil liner. Try Bobbi Brown Longwear liner (£18) in jet along the water line then add a full set of lashes. I love Nouveau Lashes as they are pliable and easy to apply, but as with all false lashes, make sure they are cut to size so they fit your eye length before you apply them.

Lupita Nyong'o looked stunning in a bespoke 'Nairobi' (duck egg) blue Prada dress with a cute head band. The '12 Years A Slave' actress wore a soft red gloss but had a great glow to her skin as well as a strong blush and defined lashes. Widen the look of your eyes by investing in eyelash curlers. Heat the rubber edges with a hair drier, then use, so you get a heated lash curl. Then apply mascara... Try Givenchy Phonomen'eyes (£23) to lift and separate the lashes whilst enhancing curl. Available in waterproof too, handy if you are making a tearful acceptance speech!

Naomi Watts was dressed in white Calvin Klein with a statement necklace, simple hair swept back and to one side. The bold red lipstick complimented the look beautifully. When you're wearing red make sure that you prep the lips. Suqqu Lip Essence cream (£35) keeps those lips soft and hydrated. To help prevent 'bleeding' try Guerlains KissKiss Liplift (£22) with its creamy texture it's unique formula helps hold on to the lipstick. MAC Redd lipliner (£12) is a great shade and can be used to shade in the lips as well lining them. If you want to splurge on a stunning red lipstick then look no further than Tom Ford's Cherry Lush (£36). If you're on a budget then try Italian makeup house, Kiko that have a lovely shade of red called Dark Red which is a snip at under £6.

Cate Blanchett looked angelic in silver and nude Armani Privee, with a 40's inspired hairdo. There was a lot of nude dresses on the red carpet which can be tricky as it can drain a complexion. Cate's makeup was fairly neutral but with a bit contouring to enhance her bone structure and full look lashes. Contouring kits are proving very popular and are available for any budget, like Sleek Face Contour Kit (£6.49). A duo compact kit that consists of a powder and a highlighter and is available in 3 varying shades. Use the highlighter down the t-zone, on top of the cheekbones and under the brow bone with the powder applied under the cheekbones , either side of the nose and at the temples.
